Sophomore Spotlight: RHP Austin Henrich

By Greg Williams
WV Director of Scouting

Austin HenrichAustin Henrich (George Washington HS) is currently ranked No. 15 in the WV Class of 2016, but do not be surprised to see him rise in the rankings in the coming months and years. The sophomore has a very projectable frame at 6-foot-4, 160-pounds. Henrich got his feet wet at the varsity level in 2013 going 3-3 with a 4.23 ERA in 43.1 innings of work. Henrich used that experience to compile impressive summer statistics as a member of the West Virginia Red Hats program going 5-0 with a 0.33 ERA.

The lanky righty has plenty of room to add to his frame and is likely to see significant spikes in his velocity as his body matures. He has exhibited command of a four pitch arsenal (fastball, curveball, changeup and splitter) as evidenced by his four walks given up in 27.2 innings of work this past summer.

Henrich and his George Washington HS teammates appear headed for an exciting spring, returning all but two members of their 22 player roster that went 24-13 last spring.
