Sophomore Spotlight: RHP/SS Druw Bowen

By Greg Williams
WV Director of Scouting

Druw BowenDruw Bowen nearly had the perfect freshman season on the mound. The 6-foot-4, 195-pound RHP/SS went 8-0 with a 2.15 ERA. Unfortunately he developed a bit of elbow soreness late in the season and did not get an opportunity to throw for Valley Fayette in the Class A state semifinals. He did play shortstop and would likely have taken the mound in the state final if the Greyhounds had advanced. That opportunity did not present itself though as Charleston Catholic scored a walk-off 6-5 win to advance to the title game.

Bowen, ranked No. 3 in the WV Class of 2016, has the size and tools to be a highly recruited prospect in this class. He sits in the mid-80s with command of 70 mph curveball and a 78 mph changeup. His continued physical growth will likely move him to 3B when he is not pitching, but his ability to swing the bat and his potential for legitimate power could make him a two-way recruit.

Bowen is among a handful of top prospects in the WV Class of 2016 that is likely to draw consideration for an opportunity to participate in the PBR Mid-Atlantic Border Battle in July and potentially in the Under Armour Midwest Future Games in August.
