Chris Petrucci was a major reason for the success of the Notre Dame HS baseball season in 2013. The young squad had no seniors and still made a march to the state semifinals in Class A baseball. Petrucci was a catalyst for the team's success batting in the lead-off position and playing shortstop.
Petrucci showed well yesterday at a workout in Morgantown attended by over 175 prospects from five states. The 5-foot-8, 160 pound right-handed hitter impressed with a short, compact swing and the ability to routinely barrel the baseball. Petrucci showcased the ability to use all fields and a short swing path that will allow him to be successful at the next level. He ran a 7.16 60-yard dash and showed athletic actions in the field. His frame projects as a second baseman, but Petrucci appears able to play on the left side of the infield as well. He has a soft glove hand and a strong enough arm to play the position (79 mph).
Petrucci will return to lead Notre Dame in its attempt to return to the state tournament in 2014. With no seniors on last year's roster the likelihood of a return trip is strong. The No. 24 ranked prospect in the Class of 2014 will likely play a major role in that effort.
