WV Spotlight Game: Independence 3, Shady Spring 2

Weather forced the cancellation of most of the Thursday schedule of games across the state. Following is a look at the highlight game of the day among teams in the Elite 8 rankings.

+ Coaches, players and fans are asked to forward scores and highlights by email or via Twitter as soon as possible following the completion of all games to ensure that all scores get included on a daily basis.

#2 Independence 3 @ Shady Spring 2

Wyatt AdkinsIndependence moved to 5-1 on the season in large part because of the efforts of Region III Class AA Preseason Player of the Year Wyatt Adkins. The shortstop, who is a West Virginia Weslyan recruit, hit two solo home runs to give him a total of four in his past two games. Adkins also singled and was walked intentionally in his final at bat.

Brian Sexton (4 IP, 3 hits, 0 runs) and Andrue Hughart (3 IP, 3 hits, 1 ER) combined for the win on the mound. Drew Green led the Shady Spring attack going 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Since a season opening loss to Greenbrier East, the Class 2A #2 ranked Patriots have won five games in a row while outscoring their opponents  68-5.
