West Virginia Class of 2017 Rankings Updated

By Greg Williams
West Virginia Director of Scouting

With the culmination of the high school season, the 2016 MLB Draft and the start of the Prep Baseball Report summer schedule of events, it is now time to shift our focus to updates to our statewide player rankings .

During the course of this week we will look at updates to the rankings in the Class of 2017, 2018 and 2019. Today we concentrate on the rising seniors in the Class of 2017.

The top ten prospects in this class are highlighted by three players that have already made Division I commitments. At the top of that list is RHP Philip Hoffman (Wahama), who is fresh off of a dominant 18 strikeout performance in the West Virginia AA state semifinals. Hoffman, a Marshall commit, is a physical 6-foot-2, 220-pound righty that sits in the upper 80s with the ability to touch 90 mph.

Hurricane shortstop Aaron Perry (Kentucky) at No. 2 and Jefferson left-handed pitcher Austin Cross (Radford) at No. 7, have also made verbal commitments to Division I programs.
