Milam

'23 SS/3B Jaxon Milam (No. 8) had a spectacular Opening Day at the plate for the Warriors, recording three hits apiece in both games played. Saw him recently in a preseason scrimmage in January, and what stood out then was the strength he had added to his frame. Couple that with his excellent in-game hitting ability, Milam continues to elevate his stock on the recruiting trail at each look. Left-handed hitter that has no issue shooting the ball the other way. In one at-bat that stood out in particular on Saturday, Milam faced Alabama signee LHP Brady Garcia, who was 87-89 mph & a tough matchup for any-sided hitter. After getting into a two strike count and fouling a couple pitches, Milam barreled up an 88 mph inner-half fastball and served it up the middle for a two RBI single. Came back up again in the same inning and recorded a two RBI double & a RBI single, making him 3-3 w/ 5 RBI's just in the 1st inning. Shown glimpses of some power, and will continue to add more as he grows/fills out. Strong arm across the infield and has the athletic ability to play anywhere on the infield.

6-foot-1, 155 pound athletic frame, but has added some noticeable strength as of late. Continues to make strides at the plate from the left side. During a HS scrimmage before the 2021 season, he did a great job sitting back on an outside changeup and deposited it over the centerfielder's head for an easy triple. Worked the count to two strikes, and showed maturity by fouling off multiple pitches off an Auburn commit on the mound. Creates leverage in the swing and has a balanced, confident approach. Good with the gloves at shortstop and has above average arm strength across the infield. Recruiting should start to heat up in 2021.

6-foot-1, 155-pound athletic frame. At the plate, Milam recorded an exit velocity of 86 mph. Started in an open stance with a smooth load, then used a controlled stride to start his swing. Had uphill swing plane, and his bat speed was quick. Through his round he found multiple barrels with some loud contact. Line drive approach. In the infield, his best throw was registered at 82 mph. Consistent accuracy to the bases, used a ¾ slot with a quick arm action. Recorded a time of 7.32 in the 60-yard dash. Projectable on the mound, has a quick arm action and a ¾ arm angle. Showed some effort in his delivery. Threw his fastball 81-82 mph and topped out at 82 mph. Curveball (60-61 mph), changeup (70-71 mph).

Starts with a wide, even stance with the feet and does a very good job of staying through contact. There is some strength in the hands and he does a nice job of staying inside the ball throughout the swing. Very balanced approach and does a nice job involving his lower half. Solid feel on the IF with plus feet and legit arm strength. Showed the ability to throw from multiple arm slots. The glove works! On the mound he showed a FB up to 81 with long arm action. The mechanics are athletic (looks easy) and clean. Pounded the bottom half of the zone with tilt on the FB. The change up showed very nice deception and can be a swing and miss pitch for him. Impressive ‘23 to follow.
