Martin is a 5-foot-11 175-pound MIF/OF with an athletic frame and build. He is a premium athlete running a 6.65 in the 60. Defensively he is a versatile player with arm strength. He throws the ball 84 mph across the infield and 88 mph from the outfield. Offensively he starts from an athletic stance with a smooth load. He has fast bat speed with a slight up hill swing path. He has shown the ability to hit the ball to all fields and has flashed some pull power. Overall Martin has shown a 5 tool player that needs to continue to refine his game.

2020 DRAFT: Standing 5-foot-11, 175-pounds with a wiry athletic build, Martin is a quick twitch athlete with an appealing mix of speed and pop. A versatile defender, he'll flash impressive range and quick hands at shortstop, though he'll periodically struggle with the routine play in front of him. Despite limited opportunities, he looked comfortable in centerfield at the USA Collegiate National Team training camp last summer, where his plus speed was an asset. Though there's a propensity for empty swings at the dish (22.8% K rate), he shows loose hands and bat speed from his right-handed swing that slugged double digit home runs in each of his first two collegiate seasons. Although an unremarkable summer, injury shortened fall (hamate) and a slow start to the spring have muddied the outlook, there's still enough appeal and SEC success to warrant top two round consideration.

4/10/19: Stands 5-foot-11, 175-pounds from a wiry athletic build. Had a small sample size of him, but left very impressed. During BP he used all fields showing above average barrel control. During his first game at-bat he drove a middle-inn fastball to the right fielder, showing compact loose hands from his open stance approach. Defensively, he showed soft, quick hands from an active lower half. Made two impressive plays up the middle, one diving to his glove side and making the throw to first. Active, hard nosed player. 3/16/19: With similar physical size, batting stance and swing to Dustin Pedroia, Martin is D1 Baseball's current top-rated prospect for 2020. He's a quick-twitch athlete with 80 grade running speed, an above average arm and plus bat speed. After a tough Friday night battling changeup after changeup from the Missouri pitchers (it's no secret that Martin hunts fastballs and struggles with offspeed pitches, especially the cambio), he was able to display his quick-twitch athleticism and premium speed on Saturday by running a 3.95 from home to first on an infield ground ball. With top grade speed comes high expectations on the bases. Thus far Martin has not shown the instincts to put that speed to use as an elite base stealer (eight SBs in 2018, five through 19 games this spring). He reached base to leadoff Saturday’s game, but was stymied at first base, often going back to the bag as the left-handed pitcher delivered the ball to the plate. Eventually he went on first move and swiped second base, but it was more a stolen base of pure speed and guessing correctly with the situation than of base stealing instincts. He will also need to cut down on his strikeout rate (21.4% career) as he matures with his hitting approach and better recognizes offspeed pitches. With that said, Martin still offers a power/speed package with future plus defensive abilities and versatility around the diamond. He has all the tools to remain at or near the top of all team’s draft lists in what looks to be another very good group of college prospects for the 2020 draft. (Seifert)
