Our staff got an updated look at Virtanen, who has come a long way since we first had eyes on him in 2023. Standing 5-foot-10, 170-pounds, the 2026 graduate has a compact setup at the plate. He starts quiet with his hands low, and while he tends to drift forward when he swings, Virtanen does well at lagging his barrel so it stays through the zone for a while. At his best he was able to get his hands out, reaching a peak exit velocity of 86 mph and carry distance of 254 feet, while catching the sweet spot of his barrel 77% mark. Defensively he's got strong actions from behind the plate, moving with pace while getting his throws up to 74 mph while living in a POP time range of 2.00-2.18. Interesting player who should be a good pickup for colleges by the Fall recruiting period.
