One of the more exciting players in the Dawgs' 2027 class is Rhys Whiteford. A product of BC's Island, standing a sturdy 6-foot-2, 185-pounds, there's a lot to like. At the plate he starts from a comfortable lefty stance, getting in sync well with a smooth swing that produced a max exit velocity of 94.4 mph and a carry distance of 336 feet, while also hitting the ball hard 87% of the time. Defensively he showed some twitch and athleticism, living 180 to 1.90 with a 76 mph arm. Overall strong day from Whiteford, who will be a close follow over the next few years.
Whiteford is a dynamic left-handed hitting catcher in the 2026 class. A smooth swing with bat speed combined with present bat-to-ball allows him to drive the ball the other way with authority, working up to an 89 mph exit velocity. He receives well with quick transfer that translate to a 75 mph catcher velocity and a 2.01 POP time. He’ll be a name to follow in the 2026 class as he continues to add size and mature physically.
