Game Performance

4/23/25

McWhinnie continues to get better with every look our staff gets. Checking in at 5-foot-11, 165-pounds, the lefty is one of the easier movers on the Island with lots of upside on the mound. When we initially saw McWhinnie he was high 70s/low 80s. On this day he competed around the zone with all his pitches, living 82-84 mph with his fastball from an easy slot that induced 17 inches of horizontal movement. His curveball and slider spin at 2300, but they both break 17 inches to his glove side. He caps it off with a 76 mph changeup that moves almost 18 inches. One of the better uncommitted arms on the Island, McWhinnie is an arm colleges should keep tabs on.

2/17/25
McWhinnie put together a solid all-around performance at the Victoria New Year Invite. On the mound, he possesses a calm and collected demeanour to go along with a clean arm action and repeatable delivery. The Pirates left-hander showed feel for 4 pitches. The fastball topped out at 83.5 mph to go along with a changeup that averaged -16.8 inches of arm side movement. The curveball has good depth and is bound to miss bats at the bottom of the zone. Rounding out the arsenal is a slider that averaged 7.3 inches of horizontal movement. McWhinnie also made strong, accurate throws from the outfield and posted a max exit velocity of 86 mph in the box.
