8/9/17

6-foot-1, 170 pounds with squared off shoulders capable of holding more strength. Lengthy and lean. Recorded a home-to-first time of 4.65. Not an elite runner but his athleticism shows up in the field. He is fluid with clean actions from shortstop, showing off a plus backhand. Flow and rhythm are apparent as he gets into position and finishes plays. Smooth double play transfers. Throws from a ¾-high ¾ slot naturally but is comfortable dropping lower to get the ball out quick. His throws across the diamond were clocked as high as 81 mph. Could potentially succeed playing anywhere in the infield. In the box, his feet setup wide and he is balanced throughout his swing. A line drive cut, the bat path is level working to all fields. His exit velocity was recorded at 80 mph off the tee. His swing is short and simple, getting the barrel head right to the ball with a late one hand finish. Also a right handed pitcher, Edwards’ mechanics are simple and were repeated consistently during games. His hands start at the belt, rising up into position as he gets his legs working. Works from a high ¾ slot off the mound. Has a solid three pitch mix that kept hitters off balance. The fastball was 77-79 mph, and he was able to command it effectively up and down in the zone. This helped his 65-67 mph 11/5 curveball induce swinging strikes. The breaking ball had good shape and increasing the velocity on it should only make it better. His changeup gets plenty of fading action and is a real asset against left handed hitters. Overall, Edwards is a two-way guy that could see a future as a position player or pitcher. With another velocity bump, his appeal off the mound could end up being the deciding factor. A definite follow heading into fall baseball.

Home-First: 4.65

7/18/17
6-foot-1, 175-pound, long, lengthy, athletic frame. The shoulders are squared off, back is wide, has room for future development. A right-handed hitting middle infielder, who can pitch as well. At the plate the stance is wider, feet are even, hands are loose, set just above the shoulders, bat has tilt to it, with the wrists cocked and ready to hit. The path is flat and works easy through the hitting zone. The hands stay through the baseball and barrel stays in the zone a long time. The approach is line drive to both gaps and to all fields. The lower half is under control and helps produce pop to the swing. The tee exit velocity was clocked at 82 mph, with a ton more in there as he gets stronger. Time down the line was at 4.75, has a smooth athletic kick to himself. In game performance was good, recorded two hits, a single and triple, showed to have knowledge of the strike zone. Defensively, is advanced for his age, prep steps and feet are smooth, uses legs well, gets low to the ground, fields out front and transfer is clean. The arm works out of a natural ¾ slot, clocked at 79 mph across the diamond, has enough strength to stick on the left side. Moved well to glove side, feeds and starts were performed well. Off the mound, has simple repeatable delivery. The hands start low, works upward with his controlled athletic leg raise. The separation is on time and in the middle part of his body, leg is inline, gets squared up on release. The fastball was clocked at 78-80 mph, located well to both sides, baseball jumps out of his hand. The changeup is his best pitch, thrown well with good arm action, clocked at 72-73 mph and the curveball was clocked at 68 mph. Threw three pitches for strikes, cruised through his inning of work. A two-way player, time will tell where he ends up, don't be surprised if it's off the mound. Home-First: 4.75 Exit Velocity: 82 MPH Arm Velocity: 79 MPH
3/7/17

6-foot-1,175-pound long and lengthy athletic frame. A well proportioned athlete, shoulders are rounded, has plenty of room for future development. Defensively, the actions are above average, has flow and rhythm in fielding the baseball. The prep steps are good, gets around the baseball, feet move throughout and towards the target. The hands are soft, fields out front with glove to hand quickly, good transfer. The arm action is short and very clean on the backside, arm works out of a high 3/4 slot, clocked at 82 mph, has downhill flight, quick fast arm. The double play feeds were on time with fluidity and showed a big time slow roller pro move. Offensively, hits from the right side, has a spread out approach, feet are even with the bat starting in a flat position above back shoulder. For timing, has a controlled lower half, uses a small leg kick, gains ground with the stride, backside is engaged. The swing path is down to level to up, gets extension through the baseball. The approach is line drive from gap to gap. Both rounds of batting practice were squared up, peppering the back wall. High follow, solid defender with the ability to handle the bat, pitches as well, is a three pitch mixer.
