9/8/17

6- foot, 175 pounds, lean and athletic frame already maturing. Solid upper body strength. Ran a 4.82 home-to-first. A left handed hitting catcher, Lucey showed gap power during his batting practice rounds and posted an exit velocity of 82 mph off the tee. Has slight bat wrap but the hands work well, propelling the bat head through the zone with a level-up path. Takes a minor step to the ball before rotating through and finishing strong with two hands. His feet set shoulder width apart as the hands work high. Defensively, Lucey posted pop times between 2.06 and 2.12, while his arm velocity was timed at 71 mph. Improved arm strength and further refinement in his footwork out of the chute should help bolster his pop times. Showed some feel for receiving behind the plate with strong hands. Overall, his best tool is his bat. He shows promise on defense and there is room for growth, and his skills would also work if moved away from behind the plate. Continuing to work on making consistent hard contact in game action will help elevate his stock heading into the fall season.

Home-First: 4.82

Exit Velocity: 82 MPH

Arm Velocity: 71 MPH

7/18/17

6-foot-1, 180 pounds, good athleticism, durable frame. Able to get low with ease despite being on the bigger side as a catcher. Flexible, wide, balanced stance, provides good target for his battery mate as a receiver. His pop times sat between 2.00 and 2.09, arms works out of a higher slot clocked at 71 MPH from the chute. Throws from the ear, quick release, downhill and closer on the bag. Room for him to improve arm strength and refine footwork, bolstering overall defensive package. At the plate, Lucey hits with a line drive approach right now. Even hands and feet, present pop. Should eventually develop further game power to beat outfielders in the gap. Collected a single during the game against live pitching. Lucey is a solid follow.

Home-First: 4.5

Exit Velocity: 85 MPH

Arm Velocity: 71 MPH

3/1/17

6-foot-1, 180-pound, big, wide athletic frame. The shoulders are squared off, back is wide, hands have plenty of strength to them. A left-handed hitter, who took three solid rounds of batting practice, squared one ball up after another, ball jumps off his bat. The stance is balanced throughout, feet are even, hands are held at shoulder, are quiet. The path to the baseball is direct, down to level to up, with the approach being gap to gap, more of a line drive type hitter. Defensively, has a balanced wide setup behind the plate, the hands and feet work well together in the transfer, gets glove to throwing hand. The arm action is short with no hesitation, arm comes out of a high ¾ slot, arm was clocked at 72 mph. The stride foot gets short at times, needs to get out front on the finish. During bullpen work, received well, gets around the baseball, shows to have strong hands, keeping the baseball in the zone. Projects for me as a catcher, with the ability to go to first base, the swing and approach are advanced, solid follow.

Thirty-Yard Dash: 4.05

Exit Velocity: 82 mph

Arm Velocity: 72 mph
