Ommy Velez: 1B/LHP, (2022) Orville Platt, CT. 6-foot-1, 205-pound mature frame. Above average in the box, Velez clocked an exit velocity of 92 mph. (73.21 mph bat speed average). (21.91 mph hand speed average). Began in a balanced athletic stance with a controlled load, then used a short stride. Bat speed is above average, exhibits a flat long swing plane and good extension on his finish. Found lots of barrels with loud contact. Gap to gap approach. Solid in the infield, his best throw was recorded at 80 mph; has soft hands, consistent feet, and a clean exchange. Fields the ball out front, movements laterally were developing. Had a high ¾ slot and a loose arm action with consistent accuracy to the base. During the event, clocked a 60 time of 7.8. Capable on the mound, showed a high ¾ arm angle and a long arm action with consistent arm speed. Drop-and-drive type pitcher and shows some effort. Falling off shoulders and a consistent balance point. Lands open with a falling off finish. Threw his fastball 78-80 mph; has slight running action and arm side command with straight movement. His curveball (66-69) had sweeping action and glove side control.

Hit: (LHH) Above average. Began in a balanced athletic stance with a controlled load, then used a short stride. Above average bat speed. Good extension on his finish, flat long swing. Gap to gap approach. 

Power: 92 mph exit velocity, average 85.55 mph. 73.21 mph bat speed average. 21.91 mph hand speed average.

Defense:  (IF) Soft hands, consistent footwork, clean exchange. Solid.  Laterally, movements were developing and fielded the ball out front. 

Arm: 80 mph infield velocity. Loose arm action, high ¾ slot, consistent accuracy. 

Speed: 7.80 (60-yard).

Pitching:  Capable. drop-and-drive delivery, some effort. high ¾ arm angle, consistent arm speed, long arm action. Consistent balance point, falling off shoulders, lands open, a falling off finish.

FB: T80. 78-80 mph. Arm side accuracy, slight running action, straight movement. 

CB: 66-69 mph. Glove side control, sweeping action. 

6-foot-1, 210-pound, larger, strong athletic frame. Strength throughout, durable pitchers frame. A two-way player, showed well on both sides of the field. At the plate, wider setup, hands are loose with pre-pitch movement to them. For timing uses a controlled toe tap, gaining ground, backside drive. The swing is level to up, creates lift and loft, with backspin. The exit velocity was clocked at 91 mph. Defensively, shows plus actions at 1st base, feet and hands work together, hands are super soft. The double play starts are smooth and accurate. The arm action is short, working quick and clean right from the catch. The arm was clocked at 80 mph, with carry.  Off the mound, working from the set position, has tempo to delivery, strong on the back half, collapse and opens lead front foot on foot strike. The arm action is clean, working out of a natural 3/4 slot. The fastball touched 79 mph, with arm side run to it. The breaking ball was bigger, clocked in the mid 60's. Showed feel for the changeup. Projects for me more as a 1st baseman, a plus defender with feel for the bat.
