A simple calculation that divides the athlete’s Exit Velocity Max by the athlete’s 60 Yard Dash time for the given event year. For example, 98 MPH / 7.00s = 14.00.
A fastball with hop has a flat approach angle and visually jumps through the zone. When thrown up in the zone, it is more likely to generate a higher swing and miss average. Hop+ of 100 is MLB average.
Fastball
Sink+
A fastball with sink has low backspin and drops through the strike zone. When thrown down in the zone, it is more likely to generate a higher ground ball percentage and lower launch angle. Sink+ of 100 is MLB average.
Fastball
Rise+
A fastball with rise has a high percentage of backspin. When thrown up in the zone, it is more likely to generate a higher fly ball percentage. Rise+ of 100 is MLB average
Trevor Knotwell: LHP/OF, (2022) out of Notre Dame West Haven, CT. is an athletic 5-foot-11, 170-pound left handed pitching prospect. On the mound, Knotwell uses a simple, compact delivery. He gets to a good position at the top before heading down the mound in line with home plate. The arm works out of a higher ¾ slot producing a fastball that came in at 71-73 MPH (Max spin 1531; Avg 1429) with some late arm side sinking action. He also mixed in a sweeping curveball (62-64 MPH)(Max spin 1181; Avg 1149).
3/17/21
5-foot-11, 160-pound lean, athletic, body and frame work with minimal effort. Projectable on the mound, showed a ¾ arm angle and a long arm action with some arm speed. Slow-tempo type pitcher and shows easy effort. Tall balance point with in line shoulders. Lands soft with an athletic finish. Sat with his fastball at 74-75 mph; had sinking action and arm side control. Has glove side command and slurvey action on his 11/5 curveball 62-65 mph. His changeup 68-69 mph; shows very consistent command and fading action. Love the feel for all three pitchers, works from a tough slot, with more in there with fastball.
10/14/20
5-foot-10, 150-pound, average athletic frame, longer, lean body, showing plenty of room for added weight gains. A left-handed hitting two-way player, at the plate, even feet, slightly wider than shoulder width, hands are loose and relaxed at the shoulders, with bat tilt. Balanced throughout, simple pick up and put down, a level to up path, stays through it, rolls hands late and higher. The approach is from field to field, took a very good round of batting practice, had an exit velocity of 78 mph, with more in there. An average runner, ran a 7.62 sixty-yard dash. Defensively, showed good jumps and reads tracking the baseball in batting practice. The approach is under control, arm was clocked at 77 mph. Off the mound, simple repeatable delivery, inline stride, slight forward lean, could stay over post leg a tick longer. The arm action is shorter, gets tied in a tick, could get out away from head. The fastball was clocked at 75 mph, down in the zone. The breaking ball was thrown for strikes, clocked at 65 mph, proper spin to it, mixed in a true changeup at 69 mph. Projects for me as a hitter, like the life and whip the barrel has through the zone. Additional strength will add in his development.
