2021 MLB Draft: Strong bodied at 5-foot-11, 210 pounds, Del Castillo did not show the left-handed power that made him a top 100 high school prospect in 2018. A likely first rounder heading into the 2021 college season, he finished with just three home runs and slugged just .395. Behind the dish he can be inconsistent, struggling with his receiving at times, but will show an average arm with pop times around 2.0. Overall, Del Castillo is a bat-first catching prospect in the mold of Kyle Schwarber, but unlike Schwarber, Del Castillo is likely limited to first base in addition to an outside chance of sticking behind the plate.
Strong bodied at 5-foot-11, 210 pounds, Del Castillo continues to show the left-handed power which made him a Prep Baseball Report Top 100 HS prospect going into the 2018 draft. Last summer he finished the 2019 Cape season with five home runs and a .420 SLG%, saving his best for last during the playoffs as he collected five hits in 12 at-bats. He also started the 2020 spring season off strong in the batter’s box, hitting .358 with two home runs and 15 RBI in 16 games. Behind the dish he can be inconsistent, struggling with his receiving at times, but will show an average arm with POP times around 2.0. Overall, Del Castillo is a bat-first catching prospect in the mold of Kyle Schwarber (4th overall to the Cubs in 2014).
8/21/19:Strong bodied catcherAdrian Del Castillo(Miami, 2021) continued to show the left-handed power which made him aPrep Baseball ReportTop 100 HS prospect going into the 2018 draft. He finished the Cape season with five home runs and a .420 SLG%, saving his best for last during the playoffs as he collected five hits in 12 at-bats. Behind the dish he was inconsistent throughout the summer and struggled receiving during my look. Also showed an average arm with POP times around 2.0.
05/02/18- Miami recruit. The left handed hitting catcher was impressive all the way around. Defensively, he shows an average arm with pop times in the 2.0 range. He is an above average receiver with strong wrists and shoulders with flexibility and above average blocking skills. Offensively, while not getting much to hit, he made an impact when he did. Walked three times, he hit one of the three fastballs he saw in the zone deep over the right field fence. The barrell stays in the zone a long time and shows above average bat speed. Overall, a guy who is on the rise as an offensive catcher.
10/15/17- Miami recruit. Loose, quick hands in the box from the left side that consistently finds the barrel. The left handed swing plays. He has an advanced gap-to-gap approach with loose wrists and the strong lower half shows pull side power potential. Had a line drive double deep into the left corner during the game. Defensively, he struggled some during the game, but there are tools that project. His hands work, is flexibility and has flexibility. The defense is average, but the bat plays well above average, especially behind the plate.
7/10/17 - Named to Team USA 18U trials roster.
6/29/17 - Simple, short swing that has led to loud contact in the first three games. On Thursday, he was 1-for-4 with a two-run home run and was robbed of a hard hit on a diving play by the first baseman. He also squared up a flyout to center.
04/11/17 - Miami recruit. Currently ranked No. 44 in the Florida 2018 Class, No. 213 Overall. Currently stands at 6-foot, 200 pounds with a strong, solid build. Displayed an athletic setup, strong wrists, and the ability to deaden pitches in the dirt from behind the plate. Threw out multiple runners throughout the week as he displayed an accurate, above average arm with carry on his throws to the bag. At the plate he showed a feel for the barrel with a balanced approach and the ability to square the ball up from the left side. Uses all of the plate and sprays line drives into the gaps.
