7-20-2018: Fellow Ole Miss rising sophomore Carl Gindl also showed well in the showcase. A 5-foot-10, 180-pound spark plug, Gindl has a table-setter profile, with good bat-to-ball instincts and a compact lefthanded stroke. He’s a slasher who showed the ability to hit line drives to both sides of the field, but he’s primarily a middle-away hitter. The highlight of his showcase performance was when he slapped an RBI triple the other way down the left-field line. I didn’t get a run time on Gindl, but he has obvious speed that should translate to outfield range; he is tied for the Ripken League lead with 20 stolen bases in 20 tries. After going 0-for-15 as a freshman this spring, Gindl has had a breakout summer with the bat, ranking third in the league with a .404 average. There will be additional opportunities for playing time in the Ole Miss outfield in 2019, and Gindl looks like a strong candidate for an everyday job as a center fielder and potential leadoff man.
