05/09/17- Marinan, currently ranked No. 9 in Florida and No 47 in the newly released Draft 100, showed why he has shot up the board early. During the fall, Marinan mostly sat in the 87-90 mph range with his fastball and showed feel for average secondary pitches. In the first though, Marinan would work 92-95 touching 96 mph with little effort from a ¾ slot. He is listed at 6-foot-4, 200 pounds and is every bit of that. He has long legs and lands consistently in line, especially from the windup. He did rush at times in the stretch and saw the velocity drop a bit to 91-93. He also featured a slider that had quality shape with late action when he got extension at 75-80 mph. He also showed a feel for a changeup that he threw to both right and left-handed hitters at 82-85 mph. Overall, he has a strong frame with a clean arm action and offspeed that projects to be at least average.

10/16/16- Miami recruit. Stands at 6-foot-4, 200 pounds with a thick, solid, strong build. Physical upper body. Has an aggressive approach in the box with a quick bat, strong hands, and the ability to drive the ball with juice in his bat from the right side of the plate. Shows some pull side pop. On the mound he sat 85-88 mph while also mixing in a 79-81 mph change up and a 76-77 mph curveball. Interesting two way prospect.
05/28/16- Miami (FL) commit. Marinan is a physical 6-foot-4, 200-pound first basemen with an impressive presence in the box. Right-handed hitter, very comfortable in the box and showed serious bat speed, present power with more to come down the road.
4/13/16 - RHP James Marinan struggled early throwing a lot of pitches in the first inning before settling down. Control was fair. Good prospect, long, gangly loose body. FB 88-90, a bit flat, but will gain life with a more consistent delivery and release point. Curve ball needs more down angle, but has good rotation at 73-76 mph. Change up has deception at 80-81 mph. Clean, easy working arm and delivery offers a lot of projection. He definitely passes the eye test. Resembles a young John Lackey.  Also, aggressive and polished with the bat. Could be a good 2017 draft.
9/12/15 - Miami commit. Big strong thick body with a power bat and arm strength on the mound. A good 2 way guy. Has an aggressive approach with good bat speed and strength. Has a good bat path with some loft in path. Some length in swing. On the mound he was up to 88 mph with solid secondary stuff. He has been up to 90 mph in the past. Very good looking 2 way guy that still has 2 more years of High School baseball to play.
