6-26-2018: Benevolent just completed his sophomore year at Mineral Area CC. He’s currently uncommitted and is hoping a strong showing this summer can land him on someone’s roster for the fall. At 6’2/200 pounds, he offers a good combination of in-game power and arm strength for the hot corner. Strong, wide build with a durable frame. Athleticism doesn’t jump out at you but moves well enough to stay at 3rd. Very aggressive when having to come in on the ball. Arm action is quick/short with plenty of strength. Stays on top of the ball and it carries well out of his hand. At the plate he stands tall with an upright, narrow stance. Very short and simple stride. Limited movement/separation with his hands. Leverage and swing plane create the power more so than pure bat speed. Swing can get long at times and causes him to hit around or hook the ball. When he’s on time though he gets good extension after contact and can backspin it out of the park with relative ease. The biggest thing to watch moving forward will be if he can reduce the ‘K’ rate and keep up the consistent power production; 24 K’s in 66 AB but also 11 XBH (5 2B, 6 HR). Brings a hard-nosed work ethic and approach to the game. Does little things the right way and doesn’t take any plays off. (Dan Jurik)
