Tampa rising senior Nick DeTringo had the best offensive performance of any player at the showcase, going 6-for-8 with three RBIs in the Florida League’s two games. The 6-foot-3, 195-pound right-handed hitter has a mature all-fields approach (as his spray chart attests), but he mostly pulled the ball this week, notably ripping a line-drive single on a 92 mph fastball and smoking a triple to the wall in the left-center gap. He also executed a perfect push bunt single and stayed on a slider for an RBI single to left. He has a physical, athletic frame with solid bat speed, and he moves around well, though I did not get a home-to-first time. DeTringo has put together a nice summer for DeLand, hitting .305 with six doubles, a triple and a homer in 82 at-bats. He’s also a versatile defender whose infield actions play at third base or second, and he at least holds his own at a corner outfield spot. After hitting .348 with nine homers and 17 doubles as a junior this spring, DeTringo should be a nice senior sign next spring if he continues to perform. (Aaron Fitt)
