05/02/17- Currently ranked No. 23 in the Florida 2017 Class. The Stetson recruit went the distance on Tuesday night by striking out nine, giving up two runs, and scattering four hits. He has a lean, projectable frame standing at 6-foot-3, 180 pounds with quick, ¾ arm action. Simple windup with a higher leg kick, ball comes out of his hand easy. Fastball was mostly 90-92 mph, touching 93 along with an 80-81 mph slider in the first. From the second to fourth inning he would mostly pitch at 90-91, touching 92 several times throughout. The slider started to show ore sharpness and depth in the later innings and occasionally mixed in an 83-84 mph change up. Through the fifth and sixth his fastball sat in the 88-90 range, touching 91 while mixing in a 76-77 mph curveball more frequently later on in the game. He finished the seventh at 87-89, touching 90. At times throughout his tenure on the mound Vanasco did not land out in front and was inconsistent on his follow through, resulting in some of his pitches tailing out of the zone. Didn’t have his best stuff on the night, but pitched through it and hit his spots when it counted. As he becomes more consistent with his mechanics, he will continue to improve upon the command of the strike zone.
10/16/16- Stetson recruit. A slightly unknown commodity coming into the event, a lot of good things had been said about the very lanky and projectable righty. He lived up and surpassed most any expectations. The 6-foot-3, 185 pound right handed pitcher is extremely projectable with a short, very quick and clean ¾ arm action. The fastball worked 90-91 mph touching 92 from an extremely clean arm action and late life. Although his hat fell off nearly every pitch, the head seems to fall off to the side after the release of the pitch. This is most evident in the fact he consistently located both fastball and slider to both sides of the plate and down in the zone. The slider, which sits 77-79 mph, has some sweeping action and will need to continue to improve to be a high draft pick, but the shape is there and he seems athletic enough to make that adjustment. He lived up to a lot of the expectations and is a very exciting prospect going forward.
