03/21/17 - has a strong, physical build and has noticeably leaned out over the winter months. Quick swing from the left side of the plate, still needs to get more out of his lower half. Went 1-for-4 at the plate with a single. UNC Charlotte recruit.
8/11/16- Committed to the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
6.21.15 - Larger frame, solid build. Arm works from a ¾ slot, firm action. Fastball was 85-86 mph early then settled in at 81-84 mph, showed arm side run, typically left up in the zone in this outing. Threw a hard slider at 75-77 mph. Worked fairly easy, has shown good feel in the past. Showed improved velocity since last seeing him.
6.21.15 - 6-foot-1, 185-pound, left-handed hitting third baseman with broad shoulders and a strong build. At the plate hits from a crouched, slightly open stance. Smooth left-handed swing with a short path to the ball and quickness in the hands.
1.18.15 - 6-foot-1, 185-pound left-handed hitting 3B/RHP hits from an open setup, dives slightly, short stride, short, uphill bat path, natural lift to swing, took an impressive round of batting practice with line drives from gap-to-gap, 86 mph exit velocity off the tee. Defensively, threw 83 mph across the diamond from long, loose, high ¾ arm slot with some accuracy, average hands defensively. On the mound, fastball sat 81-83 mph from short, ¾ arm slot, loads knee over rubber at balance point, tall/fall delivery, slightly rushed at times, shoulders stay level throughout delivery, lands square, struggled to throw strikes as shoulders work side-to-side/get sweepy at times. Threw a 60-64 mph curveball, and a 68-69 mph slider, slider works with arm slot better as he gets around curveball. 69-73 mph changeup pulled out of the zone. Esplin has plenty of arm strength and his left-handed bat makes him a high follow prospect in the 2017 class.
6/17/14 - 6-foot, 170-pound left-handed hitting 3B/RHP impressed with two-way ability at the plate and on the mound throwing three pitches for strikes. Threw 79-81 mph from loose, high ¾ arm action with arm side run. Stride direction stays online towards home plate with smooth rhythm in repeatable delivery. 11/5 curveball ranged from 62-66 mph with gradual break. 68-69 mph changeup was thrown near fastball arm speed for strikes with occasional fade. At the plate, hits from a tall, narrow, slightly open setup with good rhythm in hands loading down and back slightly. Showed power to his pull side, producing up to 81 mph exit velocity, well above average for his age. Showed solid actions at third base and threw 74 mph across the infield. Ran 7.65 in the 60.
