CLASS OF 2026

It was a strong two-way performance from the Appalachian State commit Saturday afternoon. Provided an instant impact in the top of the 1st as he stayed on a curveball and drove it backside over the left-field wall for the 3-run home-run to put Prince Ave up early. The LHH stays well-leveraged through the zone with fast hands and present strength in the lower half. Quality look at the right-hander on the mound as well as he drew the start. Physical 6-foot-0, 195-pound frame with a stout lower half and creates easy drive down the mound. Longer arm stroke and arm speed stands out with ability to repeat the delivery well from a ¾ slot. Strong feel for a three-pitch mix and missed barrels throughout the outing. Fastball sat 90-92 with sink and run while tunneling a cutter off it with sharp break at 85-87 for whiffs. Mixed in a curveball with late-bite at 75-77 as a third offering as well. Payne has consistently performed over the years and looks poised to lead the way for a young Wolverines squad.
