Is a good bodied 6-foot-2 170-pound 2020 infield prospect that has broad shoulders and a nice frame to add strength. Landon shows a nice rangy game defensively and can provide some versatility at the next level. He flashes soft hands and quiet controlled movements in the field. He can play all 3 infield spots and believe he could also fit nicely at an outfield corner if needed. He shows plenty of arm with an 87 mph infield velocity. At the plate he shows a balanced straight away sept-up and has the ability to drive the ball into the gaps, backed up by his 88 mph exit velo from the event. Pope incorporates a unique load in his swing that is early and sudden and may cost him some bat-speed as he runs into more top end velocity, but Pope is a hitter and has not showed any trouble getting barrell to ball with an all field approach. With a little more preset rhythm in his hands Pope could really come on as a bat in the next year, and paired with his athleticism in the field Pope has a chance to be a valuable commodity for someone on the next level. Pope has quiet confidence and comes across as a grinder type baseball player that everybody likes on their club. On the mound Pope has a repeatable delivery and a fluid arm swing. He has a terrific build for a pitcher and just needs to add strength. He is a strike thrower and uses a (77-80) fastball that he can locate to both sides of the plate. He uses a 73 mph curveball for strikes and also features a changeup at 65 that he slows his hand speed down on at this time.
7/15/18- Foundation Sports Organizational Day
The 6-foot-2 170-pound middle infielder flashes tools and a good young frame. He hits out of an upright stance with an athletic base. He has a straight away approach, showing good balance and feel for the bat-head. Pope has a projectability with the bat in his hands, and a chance to grow into solid power with strength gains. His load is sudden and early, it almost leads to still hands at launch, will benefit from a slower more rhythmic load putting himself in a better launch position with his hands. Defensively he shows the ability to move around the dirt and make strong accurate throws. Can see Pope developing into an offensive profile at a 2B/3B at the next level. Interesting young player that will be a close follow going forward.
