looked outstanding during his 5.2 scoreless inning start. The 6-foot-3, super athletic righthander struck out nine, relying on a plus to better 89-91 mph cutter as his primary pitch. Although some scouts, including myself, don’t love how he pitches off a cutter, instead of a fastball, it is something he has always done, including his days as a prep. It’s a putaway, swing/miss offering at 2700 rpm that he naturally controls much better than his fastball. His high-spin heater (2500s rpm) ran up to 95 on this cool evening. With a lightning quick arm and real easy effort to a five-foot release height he produces good ride and run. Morgan also showed a plus, low-80s slider up to 2900+ rpm, as well as an occasional 87 mph changeup. Currently, he’s a top 100 overall pick, but on this look he graded out as a second rounder. Morgan can easily cement himself as a top 50 pick with more outings similar to this one. I’ve seen him several times in the past and this was easily the best.

6-foot-2, 180-pound right-handed pitcher. Relatively unknown outside the state- Morgan is one of the top multi-sport athletes in Iowa; showing high end ability in football, basketball and baseball. Morgan has a lean athletic frame with wiry strength; producing fastballs in the mid-upper 80's- touching as high as 90 mph. In combination with the fastball; Morgan shows a well above avg. breaking ball with extremely high spin rates.
