Jonathan Fitz: C/3B, (2023) Covington Catholic, KY. 5-foot-11, 189-pound. Solid in the box, Fitz recorded an exit velocity of 94 mph. Started in a balanced athletic stance with a controlled load, then used a small leg kick. Has a short simple swing plane, explosive bat speed and good extension on his finish. During the round showed loud contact. Gap to gap approach. Solid showed his live arm in the infield with position velocities up to 87 mph; showed consistent feet, a clean exchange, and sure hands. While catching, he made strong, efficient throws to second at velocities up to 83 mph; had athletic footwork, a quick exchange, and next level hands. showed his ability to throw runners out with an efficient pop time of 1.88-1.93.
Fitz is a 5-foot-10, 180-pound right-handed hitter with a strong lower half. He uses an aggressive approach at the plate, gets the barrel on plane, and looks to drive the ball with some natural lift in his swing. He recorded a 93 mph exit velocity during BP. Defensively, Fitz shows good catch-and-throw ability, highlighted by a very quick transfer and release. He shows 80 mph arm strength from the crouch, and that, coupled with the quick release, has produced 1.90-1.96 workout pop times. Fitz has established himself as the top catcher in Kentucky's 2023 class.
