Buchard is an athletic 5-foot-11, 145 pound right-handed hitting outfield prospect. He hits out of an open stance, with the hands set in front of his face. He uses a knee slide to load the weight over the back leg and get the hands into a good position to work the bat into a direct path through contact. He finishes well through contact and produced a max exit velocity of 90 MPH during batting practice.
Defensively, he moves well in the outfield and showed a velocity of 80 MPH on his throws. The feet are light, creating a balanced fielding position with the glove relaxed off his front foot. As he transitions to throw, he works through the ball and makes the exchange off the back shoulder. The arm swing is long, clean and he finishes through the play in a good line with the target.
On the mound, uses a simple delivery. He takes a small step to transition into the balance point and separates well at the top. As he works down the mound, the upper body drifts a bit toward first base, causing him to fall that way a bit as he finishes the delivery. The arm follows his shoulders, creating a higher, over-the-top arm-slot and creates some downward tilt on a fastball that sits 75-77 MPH. The change-up was a good pitch at 67-69 MPH. The action was good and the arm-speed stayed consistent with his fastball.
