Buchard is an athletic 5-foot-11, 145 pound right-handed hitting outfield prospect. He hits out of an open stance, with the hands set in front of his face. He uses a knee slide to load the weight over the back leg and get the hands into a good position to work the bat into a direct path through contact. He finishes well through contact and produced a max exit velocity of 90 MPH during batting practice.

Defensively, he moves well in the outfield and showed a velocity of 80 MPH on his throws. The feet are light, creating a balanced fielding position with the glove relaxed off his front foot. As he transitions to throw, he works through the ball and makes the exchange off the back shoulder.  The arm swing is long, clean and he finishes through the play in a good line with the target.

On the mound, uses a simple delivery. He takes a small step to transition into the balance point and separates well at the top. As he works down the mound, the upper body drifts a bit toward first base, causing him to fall that way a bit as he finishes the delivery. The arm follows his shoulders, creating a higher, over-the-top arm-slot and creates some downward tilt on a fastball that sits 75-77 MPH. The change-up was a good pitch at 67-69 MPH. The action was good and the arm-speed stayed consistent with his fastball.

This athletic 5-foot-10, 130 pound outfielder had a tee exit velocity of 78 mph.  He hits out of a tall, open stance, with the hands in a relaxed position off the back shoulder.  The load is controlled and he’s able to get back to square before beginning the swing. The hands are fluid throughout the swing, creating a short path to and through contact.  He showed the ability during BP to hit a lot of hard line drives gap to gap.

Defensively, he moves well in the outfield.  The feet are active moving to the ball.  The breakdown into the fielding position is balanced, with the glove in a good fielding position.  As he transitions to throw, he works through the baseball and makes the exchange off the back shoulder.  The arm swing is clean and showed a velocity of 74 mph.

I like the tools of this young outfielder.  He moves well in the outfield and the swing has a chance

OF Velocity- 74 mph

12/15/19

The 5-foot-10, 130 pound right-handed hitting outfielder had a tee exit velocity of 78 mph.  The stance is slightly open and athletic.  The load is controlled and he gets into a strong position to hit.  The bat path is flat and he extends well past contact.  Overall, I liked his swing. The hands are fluid and the ball jumps off his bat.  The potential for gap to gap pop is evident.

Defensively, the actions in the outfield are athletic.  The feet are light and he moves well.  As the ball is hit, he glides into a good fielding position, with the glove relaxed out in front.  The transition to the throwing position is clean and the arm is quick.  He showcased some arm strength at 74 mph on his throws.

On the mound, the delivery uses short movements to get to the balance point.  Once there, he works down the mound in line with home plate but falls toward third base as the landing foot hits.  The arm works out of a fluid ¾ slot.  The fastball sat 68-71 mph and has some sink to the arm side.  He also mixed in a breaking pitch at 58-62 mph with good spin.

I like his potential.  He’s athletic and the bat has a chance to be a good tool.
