Future Games

6-foot-2, 190-pound right-handed hitting catcher. He is a very good athlete and moves well behind the dish. He ran a 7.28 sixty at the event. The receiving is solid behind the dish as the hands are soft. He can continue to work on securing the catch. He threw 74 mph down to second base with a pop time of 2.03. The bat has an exit velocity of 91 mph. The setup is even in base, front foot slightly open to start. The front foot has a pick up and put down to it as the swing is initiated. The hands work clean and the path is uphill to contact. The frame can get bigger and stronger as he matures in age, his best days are in front of him.

6-foot-1, 190-pound, strong, physical frame, sloped shoulders, wiry strength, will be physical at some point. A right-handed hitting catcher, showed extremely well on both sides of field. At the plate, even feet, taller stance, nice and relaxed hands, flat setup. The lower half is under control, smaller kick, gaining a good amount of ground. The front side is strong, gets the backside going. The swing is level to up, stays through it, creates lift and loft. The exit velocity was clocked at 90 mph, with a ton more in there as he adds strength. Behind the plate, arm was clocked at 73 mph, had a pop time, 1.97-2.09. The feet are clean and quick, gains ground. The arm action is fluid working with easy effort. The setup is wide based, moves well to bot sides, anticipates the dirt ball. Big follow, solid catch and throw guy.

2/08/20

Renzella is a projectable, athletic 6-foot-1, 185 pound prospect.  The right-handed hitting catcher shows fluid, quick-twitch actions on both sides of the ball.  At the plate, he had an exit velocity of 89 mph of the tee. He hits out of a narrow, slightly squatty stance, with the hands above the back shoulder.  The load is fluid and gets him into a powerful launch position. As the swing begins, the hand-speed is evident. The bat-head whips through the hitting zone producing a lot of loud contact.

Behind the plate, he sits in a quiet, square stance, with the glove in the center of the chest.  As he begins to transition to throw to second base, the feet shift and drift slightly toward third base.  He gets the shoulders to be in line with the target and the arm strengh takes over. At this event, we had his pop time at 1.87-2.0 seconds and a velocity of 73 mph.

I’ve seen Renzella a few times.  Each time, his athleticism on both sides of the ball jump out immediately.  He has also continued to develop fundamentally. I’m looking forward to seeing him again this summer.

The 6-foot-1, 182 pound right-handed hitting catcher creates good leverage with his swing.  The set up is tall and the hands are loose.  As he gets to the launch position the barrel is whipped fluidly through the zone and he uses the bottom half well.  He showed some real pop to all fields during the BP. Tee exit velocity of 82 mphBehind the plate, the feet are quick and get to the throwing position well. The ball to glove transfer is good allowing the arm to work.  He was 74 mph down to second base with a 2.0 pop time.  He also ran a 7.3 sixty.I like the athleticism on both sides of the ball. I don’t think he will be uncommitted for much longer.

5-foot-10, 165-pound right-handed hitting catcher. Threw 67 mph during the catching portion of the workout. The footwork and transfer need  to continue to improve. The receiving needs to continue to soften and working on securing the catch is imperative. The bat has a tee exit velocity of 74 mph. The stance is even in base. The front foot is picked up and put down, gaining distance to the ball as it approaches. The path is long to contact, should clean right up as he matures and gets physically stronger. The batting practice session he put forth was a good one. Ran a 8.07 sixty at the event.

Catching Velocity- 67 mph
