The 4-foot-8, 78 pound right-handed hitting catcher/outfielder really opened some eyes. The swing is fundamentally sound and he shows off some quick hands. Off the tee he was 57 mph. The stance is square and balanced, with the hands in a relaxed position above the back shoulder. The load is short and gets him into a strong position to hit. The bat head takes a direct, flat path to and through contact allowing for consistent hard contact.
In the outfield, he showed some athleticism and a fluid arm at 63 mph. The feet were light and he glides into a good fielding position. The glove was relaxed and in the correct position. As he transitioned to the throwing position. The glove moves up to the midline before he gets the ball into the throwing hand. The arm-swing is fluid and he stays in line with the target as he finishes through the throw.
Behind the plate, his set up is good. The feet begin square, with the weight evenly distributed. The glove is relaxed and centered in the middle of the chest. Transitioning to throw, the feet are quick but his stride gets a little long. The arm once again looked good at 61 mph.
I was really impressed! His skillset is really advanced for such a young guy. I’m looking forward to following his progress.
