Cape Cod: Sprague is the physical embodiment of the phrase crafty lefty. In a world where seemingly every pitcher is throwing 95 mph or harder, he gets it done with a fastball about 10 mph slower than that. In two seasons at Elon, he had a 2.36 ERA in 152.1 innings of work, and he’s coming off of putting up a 2.69 ERA in 90.1 innings, which set the stage for him to transfer to North Carolina this offseason. With Harwich, he had a 4.84 ERA in 13 innings across three starts. Despite the lack of velocity, he uses his fastball effectively and does so particularly well to get under the hands of righthanded batters. He can also use a breaking ball and changeup, both in the mid 70s, as an out pitch.
