Cove is a 5-foot-7, 160 pound left-handed hitting corner infielder. Cove hits out of a narrow, slightly open set up, with the hands just off the back shoulder. The swing begins with a leg kick, with a pushing of the hands into the launch position. The swing plan is flat and direct through the hitting zone, leading to a consistent line drive stroke. This was evident during the batting practice and yielded a max exit velocity of 87 MPH.
Defensively, Cove was 69 MPH across the infield. The feet move well, allowing him to get into a fundamental fielding position. The glove is relaxed out in front and shows soft hands as he transitions through the play. Moving through the ground ball, Cove’s feet get in line with his target and stay in a position to be strong with his throws. The arm-swing is clean and loose, finishing through the play.
On the mound, this young left-hander uses a simple delivery. He stays over the rubber, gets balanced and repeats his delivery. The arm-swing is short and quick, leading to some late run on a fastball that sits 69-72 MPH. Cove also showed a good change-up. The pitch sits 65-66 MPH, with late sinking action. He also mixed in a breaking ball at 55-56 MPH, that looks to still be developing.
