Maryland Preseason All-State Session II
Body: 6’1’’, 240 pounds. Compact, XL frame with strength present.
Hit: RHH. Wide, even base with the hands starting high at the shoulder with slight rhythm; utilized a short leg lift stride while entering the hitting zone through a short, flat path with burst to it at impact. Hit into a stiff front side with plenty of hand speed available on the inner half of the plate (23 mph average via Blast Motion). Generated a smooth 31% line drive rate yielding play to the gaps and a peak batted ball distance of 327 feet.
Power: 95 mph exit velocity during BP per TrackMan. Doubles power at the moment with the occasional ability to run it out of the yard to pull.
Arm: RH. INF - 76 mph. Short, high ¾ slot with accuracy across the diamond.
Defense: Approached with on time footwork yielding always-moving shuffles towards the target, stayed in the legs well and changed direction of the baseball simultaneously at the fielding window. Adequate pace across the diamond with a soft glove hand working inside and outside the left foot.
Run: 7.79 60-yard time.
Delivery: Started from the far left side of the rubber; side rocker into a medium leg lift at chest height, worked down the mound with adequate success landing in a moderately upright position on the release. Held a straight line allowing for repeatability in the zone.
Arm Action: RH. High ¾ slot with a low spin profile.
FB: T76 mph, 72-75 mph. Average spin rate of 1602 rpm. Held the bottom of the zone with success with up to 10 inches of horizontal movement (100% zone rate).
CB: 65-67 mph. Average spin rate of 1392 rpm. Developing offering with occasional short bite to it across the plate.
CH: 61-64 mph.
Maryland Preseason All-State Session I
Body: 6’1’’, 240 pounds. XL frame with advanced strength in the movements. Thick lower half build.
Hit: RHH. Wide, even setup with connection to the ground in the stance; hands began at the shoulder from a strong launch position. Utilized a short lift and replace stride and quick, flat path to enter the hitting zone with authority. Not a lot extra going on in the approach creating consistency and efficiency during his batting practice round, hit into a stiff front side with leverage out in front of the plate leading to a standout 46% hard hit rate via Trackman Baseball. Stayed mostly middle of the field with a preference for the pull-side gap when pitched out over the heart of the plate; an 83 mph peak bat-speed was just silly.
Power: 92 mph exit velocity during BP per TrackMan. A 315+ foot peak batted ball distance coupled with strength at the plate points towards obvious XBH abilities at the moment, can run it out of the yard with more consistency if he can let the lower half lead a little more in the swing.
Arm: RH. INF - 77 mph. Short, high ¾ slot with a traditional release. Stayed relatively the same when making plays on the move/run.
Defense: Played low to the ground with good posture, beat the ball to the spot he wanted to field it and kept a bent position after funneling into the belt loop. Held momentum well with adequate pace across the diamond from the hot corner.
Run: 7.87 60-yard time.
Delivery: Side rocker step into a medium leg lift at the top of the stack, slight lean back through the heels before moving down over the front side on the mound. Adequate pace to the delivery.
Arm Action: RH. Short, over the top arm action with a small arm circle.
FB: T76 mph, 73-76 mph. Average spin rate of 1644 rpm. Pitches worked better down in the zone with additional command to both sides of the plate (100% zone rate).
CB: 67-69 mph. Average spin rate of 1431 rpm. Developing shape with sometimes inconsistent release.
CH: 63-64 mph.
Physical: Large, advanced 6-foot-1, 240-pound frame with strength held throughout. 7.86 runner in the 60-yard dash.
Offensively: RHH - Crouched, balanced stance with the barrel showing controlled, loose rhythm over the backside shoulder in the setup. Utilized a short lift and replace stride in order to initiate the hands through a slightly uphill path and into the hitting zone. Short and sudden swing path with good hand speed (23.30 mph) which should play admirably against higher velocity. Up to a peak of 91 mph bat-exit velocity according to Trackman Baseball with a sneaky high power ceiling down the road (23.2 G’s of rotational acceleration). Displayed feel for the pull-side gap while recording a standout 46% line drive rate during batting practice. Room for more as he matures.
Defensively: The primary third baseman flashed medium posture on the approach while the feet arrived on time to the fielding window. Fielded off of the toes with a moderately stiff glove hand, funnelled into the body for accurate, repeatable 71 mph throws across the diamond from a high ¾ slot.
Pitching: Started from the far left side of the rubber from a tall position, average tempo in the delivery with a traditional leg lift at the top of the stack, intent to push out on the move forward towards the plate, quick arm through a high ¾ slot on the front side. FB ranged from 72-74 mph with low spin and play down in the zone (1625 average). Mixed in a short breaking 67 mph CB that’s still in development at the moment, countered with a quality 64 mph CH with similar release heights to the FB allowing for deception at the plate.
