MD Future Games Trials 6.27.18

Solid, compact body type and 5-foot-11, 190 pound frame. Hits from a balanced, slightly crouched, open stance. Smooth back load with a short, uphill swing path. Explosive lower half involvement, quick hands, and fast bat speed. Gets really good extension through contact and stays behind the ball well. High finish and exit velo of 82 mph. Took two really impressive rounds of BP showing gap-to-gap power and even more pop to the pull side. Plays through the ball in the infield with good hands. Showed the ability to really pick it. Glove tap in exchange. Throws with shorter arm actions at a high three-quarters slot at 81 mph. Ran a 4.83 home-to-first. Side-step wind-up into tall balance position. Sinks into back leg and gets down to out with lower half. Solid drive off the mound and clean hand separation. Shorter arm action and creates quick arm speed through release. Throws from a high three-quarters slot with regular effort. Lands square and finishes falling off slightly to the first base side. Fastball was up to 83 mph and sat 80-82 mph. Breaking ball sat 63-65 mph with big 12/6 shape and gradual action. Change-up was 72-74 mph with some dive.

Gap-to-gap type hitter with present pull side power. Plays through the ball in the infield with good hands. Showed the ability to really pick it. Glove tap in exchange. Throws with shorter arm actions at a high three-quarters slot at 81 mph. Ran a 4.03 home-to-first. Small side step wind-up into tall balance position. Sinks into back leg and gets down to out with lower half. Solid drive off the mound and clean hand separation. Shorter arm action and creates quick arm speed through release. Throws from a high three-quarters slot with regular effort. Lands square and finishes falling off to the first base side. Fastball was up to 81 mph. Breaking ball sat 64-65 mph with big 12/6 shape and gradual action. Changeup showed some arm side run at 71 mph.

5.20.17 - Duffy has an athletic and solid frame at 5-11, 190lbs. He ran a 7.52 second 60-yard dash. The shortstop and RHP hits from the left side of the plate. He sets up open and gets to strong, square position after a simple load. Has rhythm throughout load and stays into lower half well. Hips explode on the ball and allow his slotted hands to fly through the zone on a short, inside path. Gets extension and makes load contact when he stays through the ball. Exit velocity of 87 mph. In the infield, his hands work and feet allow him to get throws off quickly. Has some fluidity in his actions and does a good job of securing the ball. On the mound, he has a quick tempo and drives with backside to get down the mound in a square position. His arm action has a slight hitch and releases the ball from a high ¾ slot. Fastball topped at 83 mph and showed some life. Breaking ball has a 2/8 shape with late movement.
 
1.21.17 (Freshmen Free Showcase) - Strong athletic frame at 5-foot-11, 190-pounds. Ran a 4.26 home to first. Hits from an open set up. Quick rock back load to hitting position. Sticks front foot at times on landing could lead to getting out of balance. Level swing path with extension through contact. Creates fast bat speed through the zone. Exit velo of 87 mph. Sound actions in the field with some arm strength. Like to see on balls of feet more. Infield velo of 75 mph. Very interesting 2020 prospect that will be one to keep an eye on...........Solid, projectable frame at 5-foot-11, 190-pounds. Smooth, build up type delivery. Long, sound arm action throwing from a high three quarter arm slot. Does get some lower half involvement. Slight finish to first base side. Creates arm speed through release. Straight fastball up to 78 mph and ranged from 75-77. Breaking ball ranged from 64-66 gradual break with tight rotation and 10/4 shape. Change up ranged from 65-67 with some sink to the pitch.
5.15.16 - Lean athletic frame at 5-foot-9, 145-pounds. Ran a 7.70 60-yard dash and home to 1st at 4.64. Hits from slightly open stance with balance. Quick bat with a level path. Exit velo of 77mph. Active feet from the middle. Clean hands and exchange. Short arm action throwing from a ¾ arm slot. Works thru the ball and throws across the diamond at 73 mph... Throws from a high ¾ arm slot and pitches with regular effort. Balanced delivery with a regular compact arm swing on hand break. Pitches 71-74 and topped out at 75mph. Breaking ball has 11/5 shape with average spin and gradual break. Threw breaking ball 60-62mph. Throws changeup at 66-69mph with slight fade action. Arm strength and pitch movement should improve moving forward.
