Cape Cod: After proving himself as one of the best hitters in college baseball as a freshman at Auburn by batting .361/.429/.546, Irish adapted well to using a wood bat this summer, batting .283 with as many walks as strikeouts (13). Irish has massive raw power to all fields and the lefty hit the ball hard to the opposite field with regularity this summer. He hit just six home runs last season—and didn’t hit his first until March 24—and went without a homer for Brewster, but don’t read too much into that. His 24 doubles with the Tigers shows he was driving the baseball, and it’s only a matter of time before some of those doubles start to clear the wall. There’s no doubt about Irish’s ability to hit at the next level, there’s more uncertainty about his defensive future. A catcher by trade, he played there just once last season for Auburn, instead spending most of his time at DH with a dozen games at first base mixed in. With Brewster, he played in 28 games, 14 of them at first base and 10 at catcher, with four others at DH. Though it’s tough to make too many judgments about Irish’s defense behind the plate in such a small sample, he does have plus arm strength, which can only help. Speed is never going to be a big part of Irish’s game, but he runs better than you might assume.

Fielding: Quick actions behind the plate, shows an advanced feel. Smooth glove to hand transfer throwing quickly down to 2B. 2.00-2.03 while throwing 78 mph. In the OF attacks the ball aggressively fielding off his front leg throwing 78 mph. Swing: Stands tall with elevated hands. Shows a smooth load unleashing an aggressive cut at the plate. Drives the baseball. Handles the bat well. High ceiling. 86 mph exit velocity with wood.

Moves side to side well blocking the ball. At the plate swings on the left side with a balanced stance. Has a smooth glove to hand transfer making hard contact each time.
