2/17/14 – Gavin is a solid 5-foot-9 170-pound catcher. Offensively, Gavin displays a quick bat that posted an 83 MPH exit velo. He starts with a small leg kick and gets a little uphill. He has mostly a pull approach but showed the ability to hit consistent line drives. During the defensive evaluations he recorded pop times between 1.97 and 2.18 with mostly accurate throws to the bag at second. His quick exchange and arm strength resulted in a positional velo of 76 MPH. Gavin ran a 4.58 home-to-first and with a few tweaks in his hitting and catching mechanics, he will be a player to keep his eye on this year.
