2/18/23 Missouri’s top eligible position prospect, Austin, showed hit ability and power potential with a 5-for-12 Showdown which included three extra base hits. As usual, his approach at the plate was selective, yet aggressive and he generated above average bat speed. The compact built (5-foot-10/190 pounds) right handed hitter is also an average runner underway and looked to be an average defender in left field. He has also looked average as a defender at second base in the past. However, it’s all about the bat for him. He’s what the industry refers to as a “performance pick” and not one that oozes tools or high projection. Austin has the tools, skills and resume (.297/.417/.476 in 2022) to be considered for mid-Day Two in 2023, but he must perform at a high level this season.
