Past reports of the 6-foot, 195-pound two-way talent were centered more in the 88-91 mph velocity range. However, on this recent look Schanaman took that to a whole new level with a bolt up to 95 while working in the 92-94 band throughout the second inning. He settled in at 90-92 for the remainder of his 5.1 IP, 92-pitch outing. His main weapon is a cutter/power slider in the 82-85 mph range and he showed the ability to expand to his glove side when needed for the situation. He will also mix in a slower version (80-81) of his slider early in counts as a get me over. His changeup is his fourth pitch and rarely used. However, he got a big double play ball from a left handed hitter to squash a potential rally in the third. The batter, Connor Pohl, had homered earlier in the game off a Schanaman fastball. With more stuff than performance this season (4-2, 5.91 ERA, 56.1 IP, 56 H, 11 HBP, 22 BB, 61 SO) Schanaman has the talent to be considered on Day Three.
PBR ProCase- Nebraska recruit, currently ranked No. 188 overall, No. 2 in Nebraska’s 2018 class. 6-foot. 188-pound two-way prospect, lean, wiry-strong build. Showed well across the board at the Midwest ProCase. Ran a 6.91 laser-timed 60, was clocked at 85 mph across the infield, and recorded a 90 mph exit velocity with wood. At shortstop, moves well laterally, fields the ball in rhythm, shows ability to throw from multiple angles with accuracy and carry; easy, reliable hands, natural defensive actions, plays low to the ground,. Offensively, hits from a tall, slightly open setup, leg lift trigger, relaxed, athletic hands, slightly uphill path with sneaky pop. Present bat speed, generates lift in swing, gets long through contact. On the mound, sat 87-89 with his fastball, topping at 90. Inconsistent around the zone, mostly straight. Slider ranged between 75-79 mph, inconsistent shape, tendency to get underneath.
2016 Future Games- 5-foot-11, 185-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. #185 ranked 2018 in PBR Overall. Well built, athletic frame, with present strength. Schanaman ran a 6.9 60, was 86 mph across the infield, and recorded an 89 mph exit velocity at event. Leg kick trigger, loses posture in swing, slight uphill path, aggressive swinger, shows above avg. pop in bat, triple to oppo gap. Plays on balls of feet, light, moves athletically. Glove works; funnels early occasionally. Above avg. carry on throws with accuracy to bag. Easy actions on mound, repeats well, and shows ability to play catch with glove. Pie arm action with upright release. Fastball has solid life at 85-86 mph with varying cut and run. Above avg. curveball, with sharp break, thrown at 74-76 mph.
5-foot-11, 180-pound shortstop/RHP stood out as the top two-way player at the event. He ran a top 6.9 60 yard sprint. At the plate, has an athletic set up, leg kick stride and compact line drive swing. Mature actions in the field with good feet and a strong 87 mph arm across. One the mound, showed a loose, two-piece arm action with some effort. Sat 87-89 mph with his fastball, topping out at 90 mph. Also showed a hard spinning 75-77 breaking ball with good depth and tilt and feel for 72-73 mph changeup.
