Payne has a lean and athletic frame at 6-foot, 165-pounds. Ran the 60 yard dash in 7.43 seconds and recorded an exit velo of 84 MPH. Starts at the plate in a wide and open stance. Hands are away from the body at shoulder height while his elbow remains parallel to the ground. Some pre pitch rhythm. Minimal stride with a toe tap. Hands move slightly up and back during the load. Hands work well through the zone. Recorded a positional velo of 75 MPH in the outfield. Under control approach to the ball with small, choppy steps. Fields the ball outside of his front foot and makes his transfer by his chest. On the mound, throws exclusively from the stretch. Starts in the middle of the rubber with his feet slightly closed. Both halves work in sync. Even shoulder tilt, stride direction is in line. Short stride, with a strong frontside. Long, smooth arm action. High 3/4 arm slot, nearly over-the-top. FB had some arm side run at 77-79 MPH. CB had big 11/5 shape and was consistently thrown for strikes at 59-63 MPH. Mixed in a CH at 66-68 MPH.
