4/16/22

Miller sat out his freshman season (2020) at Valparaiso with a back injury then pitched just 10.2 innings last spring. Now a third-year sophomore, the 6-foot-2, 185-pound athletic lefty has taken his game to another level. With a quick arm and clean arm action he worked quickly and aggressively pounded the zone against the Redbirds with a four-seam fastball that touched 93 and sat 90-91. His ability to locate the pitch inside and under the arms of right handed hitters was apparent and made his best pitch slider that much more effective. It's a gyro breaker at 79-81 mph with a 2400-2500+ rpm spin rate and late action. An out pitch at the college level, it is likely to be the same at the pro level as Miller repeated and commanded the pitch. On the pro scale it graded as a present average offering with plus potential. His third pitch wasn't as often-used, but it too has the potential to become a weapon. His changeup is firm at 84-85 mph, but has some power and late bottom. Thrown with fastball arm speed it's also deceptive and late-actioned. It grades out near average with above average potential in the future. Working exclusively from the stretch, Miller's delivery is also fluid, repeatable and he uses his lower half really well. Overall, the lefty showed a starter type delivery with three quality pitches for strikes and there's also plenty of projection remaining considering his frame, athleticism and feel.

6/06/18

Miller ran a 7.57-60.  Arm strength from the outfield measured at 82-MPH.  Pitching-fastball ranging from 82-83-MPH, topping out at 83-MPH with a curve sitting at 75-MPH.

6-foot-0, 155-pounds with a frame to dream on. Stays behind the ball, aggressive tracking, uses his legs for more power on his throws from the OF, 83 mph arm-strength with more in the tank. Even stance in the box, with a closed off stride. Drops bat down during load. Barrel has some slight lift, fluid path, power especially to his pull-side.

Northeast Pride (February 10, 2018)

Miller stands in at 6-foot-0, 155-pounds with a tall, lean, athletic frame. Ran a 7.62 – 60, just shy of his previous best mark of 7.56 set in June 2017. Offensively- Lefty sets up with a slightly open stance utilizing an efficient trigger to get into a strong hitting position. Has quick hands to the hitting zone with a upward barrel path using strong lower body rotation getting his whole body involved in the swing. Demonstrated good plate coverage and gap to gap power during batting practice round. Recorded an exit velocity of 86 MPH, a 3 MPH improvement from his best previous mark of 83 MPH set in June 2017. Defensively- Shows good footwork and approach to the baseball. Crow hop mechanics are fluid throughout the ball with aggressive footwork towards the intended target. Shows an efficient outfielder arm swing with accurate throws. Recorded a positional arm velocity of 80 MPH, tying his previous best mark set in June of 2017. Pitching- Lefty sets up on the right side of the rubber with a high leg into a strong power position. Shows a strong drive down the mound getting into a good throwing position on foot strike. Long and loose mechanics with a high ¾ arm slot. Repeatable mechanics while throwing consistent strikes. Fastball range was 80-81 MPH and peaked at 81 MPH showing arm side run. Slider range was 72-73 MPH with sharp breaking action. Change up was 74-75 MPH with sinking action. Overall a strong 2019 collegiate prospect.

NY Games (June 25-27, 2017)

Slender 5-foot-10, 145-pound left-hander, ran a 7.82/60. Pitching - loose and fluid delivery, clean arm action, gets downward plane on 80-81 MPH fastball that touches 83 MPH, arm-side run, explodes at the plate, uses positive hip tilt at balance point. Offensively - appropriate pre-pitch movement from the left side of the plate, keeps bat on level path through the strike with full extension for an exit velocity of 83 MPH, some evidence of lower body engagement, further counter rotation between upper and lower torso will generate added power. Defensively - poised and confident, fundamentally sound, makes smooth and easy transfer to throwing hand for an outfield velocity of 79 MPH.

Winter Open (February 28, 2017)

Miller stands 5-foot-10, 145-pounds with a slender build. Pitching- Worked from the stretch back in February with clean compact mechanics with good-tempo and pace. Arm-action has a slight pause before the hand powers forward, other than that very fluid with no restrictions. Slight head lean towards third base, releases the ball from a high 3/4 slot, fastball sat 78-79 MPH with some natural arm-side run. Showed at times the ability to attack hard inside. Changeup has gradual fade, with a curve/slider that shows late sweeping action. Overall, exciting 2019 prospect on the mound the follow this summer.
