5/22/21

A New Jersey prep and second-year freshman eligible for the 2021 draft, Modugno benefitted by the numerous scouts who remained in the stands after Brown left the game. With a long, lanky build the 6-foot-4 right-hander showed a quick arm from a three-quarter slot and drove down the hill to unleash a 92-93 mph fastball with spin rates in the mid-2400s. His hard slider was an above average to plus pitch and garnered swing/miss at 85-86 mph during his one inning, 13-pitch appearance. With 36 strikeouts in 34.1 IP, a 2.08 ERA and a frame oozing projection, there looks to be even better days ahead for Modugno. Although he’s draft eligible this summer, he’s not likely to turn pro as his value has not yet peaked. With further physical maturity and development on the bump, Modugno could become an early Day Two prospect in 2022.

6/02/18

Modugno stands at 6-foot-6, 195-pounds. Lanky, athletic build with long limbs. High ceiling, has yet to fill out physically. On the mound, begins with his feet slightly staggered. Throws from a high 3/4 arm slot, with a long, loose, clean arm action. Above average arm speed, indicates more velo to come. Smooth mechanics, maintains rhythm and tempo. Drives downhill, stride direction in line. Repeats well. From the stretch, begins with his feet closed and slightly preset. Uses a quick leg kick from the stretch. Fastball sat 84-85, while touching 87. FB showed downhill angle with late life. Curveball displayed big 11/5 shape with occasional sharp tilt at 72-75 MPH. Was consistently at the bottom of the zone and created swings and misses.

Indiana University recruit. Modugno has a lanky and athletic frame at 6-foot-6, 190-pounds. Starts tall on the mound with his feet angled towards the third base line. Long, loose, clean arm action. High 3/4 arm slot. Works with rhythm and tempo. Even shoulder tilt. Stride direction stays in line. Fastball sat at 84-85 MPH and touched 86 MPH on this day. Will gain velo as he fills out his frame. Curveball showed big 11/5 shape at 70-72 MPH.

Preseason All-State Showcase (February 11th, 2017)
Modugno has a tall, lanky build at 6-foot-5 175-pounds. One of the top prospects from the event. Ran a 7.04 60 yard dash. Offensively- Modugno has a tall setup. Feet are just further than shoulder width apart. Bat rests on shoulder, parallel to the ground. As pitch comes in, uses a small stride to start swing. Hands load back. Creates some lift on finish - swings down and finishes upward. Exit Velocity of 84 mph. Defensively- lanky body with a lot of levers moving, but shows athleticism and an idea of how to play position. Quiet hands and feet. Exchange is clean and throws were on target with some backspin. Pitching- projectable pitcher  with long, loose and free arm action. Fastball topped at 78 mph, sat mostly 76-78 with some armside run. Breaking ball separates him from rest of the pack. Sharp 11/5 downer type at 67 mph with command. Fastball handspeed, tight spin. Tall/fall type delivery. Uses leverage to create downhill angle to fill bottom of the zone. High-3/4 arm slot. Lands square and under controlled. Look for Modugno to make a jump this summer as he continues to get stronger and fill out that frame. High follow prospect.
