NY Procase (June 26, 2017)
Preseason All-State (February 11th, 2017)
Stil has a lean, athletic build at 6-foot-2 185-pounds. Charleston Southern commit. Pitching- topped at 88 mph with his fastball, sat mostly 84-87 from a high-3/4 arm slot. Arm and build show elasticity and flexibility, indicating that there is more in the tank once he fills out. Breaking ball had 11/5 shape with near fastball arm action at 69-71 mph. Changeup had some arm side run at 75-76 mph with fastball arm action. Needs to polish mechanics up slightly, especially in balance point. Tends to drift to home plate with body and arm has to catch up. If he can get arm and body in rhythm going down the mound, he can add a couple notches to his fastball. Offensively- Stil starts in a slight crouch with feet slightly further than shoulder width apart. Utilizes a leg kick to start swing. Hands are high above his shoulder with the bat parallel with the ground. In his hand load, bat and hands load downward with bat more vertical. Smooth swing through the zone, back-legged finish. Exit Velocity topped at 96 mph. Defensively- attacked ground balls on the outside of front foot. Gained ground toward target on finish. Loose, whippy arm action. Throws topped at 93 mph, the highest outfield velocity of the event.
Underclass Games (September 18, 2016)
Stil is a lean, athletic RHP/OF at 6-foot-2 180-pounds. Has the potential to be a true two-way guy at next level. Pitching- wide range of FB velo between 79-84 mph, topped at 85. 67 mph curveball occasionally wraps wrist with. 69 mph straight changeup. Athleticism is apparent, somewhat of a hitch in delivery at the top of his leg lift, causing him to drift toward homeplate instead of driving off the rubber. Arm action is long and loose, whippy type - especially apparent on throws from outfield Offensively- Slightly opened stance with balanced weight to start. Hands high above head. Uses a small leg lift to drive hands back into a load. Aggressive hips and hands create line drive pop. High upside athlete.
PBR Future Games (August 4-6, 2016)
Stil is 6-foot-2 180-pounds with a projectable frame and high ceiling. Ran a 7.44 60. Offensively- long, wiry frame - has elastically flexible torso in swing that hips generate power. Uses a small leg lift and mixes in an occasional toe tap to start swing. Hands start high above shoulder. Gets good leverage on the baseball in his bat path and finish. Exit velo topped at 94, one of the top recording fo the entire event. Defensively- showcased his elasticity with throws from the outfield that topped at 90 mph. Long, loose arm action from a high-3/4 slot. Finishes with all momentum going toward target. Pitching - Stil stands an impressive 6-foot-2, 175-pounds with plenty of room to add more weight. Fastball today was 80-84 (seen him 85-87 recently) from a nicely paced delivery, clean arm-action. Throws from a high-3/4 slot with aggressive hand-speed out in front at times. Curveball sat 70 mph with some gradual shape, change-up was low-mid 70's on one-plane. Interesting prospect to keep a close eye on.
New Jersey Games (July 23-25, 2016)
Stil is an athletic 6-foot-2 180-pound RHP/OF with a very projectable frame. Offensively, starts in a wide stance with hands above his head. Weight transfer starts his load, with a toe tap. Viciously rotates hips, hands stay short with barrel coming through the zone quick. Exit velo of 93, one of the top of the whole event.Defensively - shows a whippy arm action and advanced carry on throws from the outfield, up to 82 mph. Pitching - very loose arm with short arm action. Throws from a high-3/4 arm slot. 81-83 mph with FB, 68-69 mph slurvy curveball 10/4 break. Loose athletic arm. Velo has been up to 87 in the past.
New York Games (June 27-29, 2016)
Still sits in at 6-foot-2; 180 pounds with a tall athletic frame. Ran a 7.37 – 60 at NYS Games Showcase. Offensively -Stance is square to the plate with wide base, little knee bend, and hands above back shoulder. On pitch his trigger is a quick toe tap in before striding out while his hands move back slightly into a good hitting position. Trigger of hands and weight transfer provides good torque from his core on his lower body rotation. Hands are very quick to the hitting zone and an ideal barrel path though to a high two handed finish. Swing is fluid and looks easy. Provides power as well with a recorded exit velocity of 94 mph, which is a 3 mph improvement from January 2016. Pitching-Fluid delivery with a thigh high knee raise and good loose arm action. Release point is a high ¾ slot with good glove side pull. Great use of lower body creating torque used throughout entire delivery. Will improve with more reps and addition of additional strength gains. Fastball was recorded at 82-87 mph and Slider sat 74-78 mph.
Winter Trials South (January 30, 2016)
M atthew is a lean yet athletic 6-foot-0 165 pound RHP/OF. He ran a 4.27 home-to-1B and put up some impressive measurables for a 2018 grad. Offensively- Matt starts in a slightly open stance with his feet just outside his shoulders and a hand position up and off his shoulder with his bat angle at 40 degrees. Creates separation with a controlled load back and slight stride forward that keeps him closed into contact. Aggressive with back foot/hip rotation with an occasional collapse on back side producing swing length. Has a lean back finish with hands high. Linedrive/flyball results with some pop to his pull side. Exit velocity was an impressive 91 MPH. Defensively- Matthew is a bit raw in the outfield but has the athleticism to make adjsutments. He fields the ball properly out in front but uses a stutter skip into his crowhop that disrupts the timing of breaking his hands, rushing him through his arm action. Arm strength is there at 86 MPH, simply needs to get untangled with his movements. Pitching- On the mound Matt was impressive and showed polish for a underclassmen. Features a long and loose arm action with a fastball that rides in the 83-84 MPH range. Starts on the arm side of the rubber with a slight rocker step that slides him back into the middle. Hands stay at he belt line with a knee drive to the mid chest. Stays long with his throwing arm, working through a 3/4 arm slot. Lands closed on his front side with some slight cross fire action. Curveball showed some sweeping action at 66-67 MPH, almost too slow but yet effective. Change up checked in at 76-77 MPH with a let up in arm speed a times. Overall foundation and feel for three pitches is there.
