Comments
Batista is a well put together 5-foot-10 200 pound INF/RHP with a strong lower half. Batista ran a 7.28 60 yard dash showing athleticism for his position. Elbows sway to the side and could improve his speed by tucking his elbows tighter to his body. Offensively, Batista starts with his feet slightly over shoulder width with a still bat at a 20 degree angle. Minimal coil while keeping hands back with upward finish through contact producing fly ball results. Good pop with results playing better than his 75 MPH exit velocity. Very smooth swing path with pull-side tendency; stays in the zone a long time. Defensively, takes a balanced approach to the ball; fields the ball in the center of his body with a smooth transition from glove to throwing hand. Seems to shuffle feet more than necessary before delivering at 79 MPH across the infield. Pitching Batista shows some next-level projection. Medium side step to a knee to chest balance point with slight forward drift, medium pace. Fastball sat 81-82 MPH; loses some control to arm side as a result of drift and late release from 3/4 arm slot. Quick and sharp 1/7 shape on curveball ranging from 71-72 MPH. Would like to see Batista develop a change-up to offset his fastball and keep hitters off balance. Overall, added strength with more aggressive actions will help elevate his game.
