8/07/19

A physical projectable frame at 6-foot-2, 215 pounds. The left handed hitter stands in the box with a slight bend in the knees. Simple load actions. Quick direct path to the baseball. Short powerful swing. Profiles to hit for power at the college level. Displayed pop to the pull side. Good use of the lower half. Finishes in an upright position. Exit velocity was 91 MPH. Defensively- displayed simple OF actions. Stays under control when approaching the baseball. Smooth exchange and quick release from a high ¾ arm slot. The top throwing velocity was 73 MPH.

Shapiro, a 2020 left-handed hitting first baseman/outfielder, stands at 6-foot-0 and weighs 170 pounds, ran a 8.28 60. Offensively- Starts with a slightly closed balanced lower half with the hands held above and slightly off the back shoulder while the barrel of the bat moves from a parallel to a 45-degree position during the setup. Gets to the launch phase of the swing with a slight lift of the lead foot while the knee makes an inward movement and hands are loaded outside the back shoulder while dropping below the height of the chest. Showed an ability to keep the hands behind the rotation of the hips while the barrel moved in a circular path to and thru the hitting zone, with both hands finishing across the chest. Pulled the ball from the line to the gap during batting practice showing an ability to drive the ball located at lower inner third fairly well. Recorded an exit velocity of 81 MPH of 65 MPH a significant jump from last year (+16 MPH). Defensively- Gets the feet more than shoulder width apart, hands held just above the knees with a slight bend before the pitch. Approaches the ball quality body control, fielding the ball in front of the body but allows the shoulders and hips to open up to the throwing side. Transferred the ball from just above the waist, creating a long arm action which causes a slight disconnect between the upper and lower half. Registered an arm velocity of 70 MPH which was a personal best and an increase of 6 MPH from last event.

11/29/15

Andrew stands a lean 5-foot-10, 160 pounds. A 2020 grad, he has a very projectable frame for 1B. He ran a 5.06 Home to 1B and had an exit velocity of 65 MPH. Offensively- The LHH starts with a closed off stance and low hand position with a flat barrel angle. Very active with hands during timing, dropping to the belt before lifting hands back to a launch position. Weight slides into contact via his front hip. Hands hitter who can get the barrel to the ball ball. Has some work to do at the plate to be consistent vs. better competition. Athletic enough to make needed adjustments. Defensively- Worked out at 1B. Show active footwork, gets hands in front and is serviceable with footwork. Consistent with release using a short arm path from a 3/4 slot at 64 MPH. Has the frame that will handle 1B over the long term.
