8-1-2018: 6’0/200 pounds. Powerfully built, explosive athlete. Rodriguez had one of the loudest and most impressive showings during the All-Star festivities. Started things off by capturing the title of “Fastest Runner in the NECBL” with times of 6.40 and 6.44 in the 60-yard dash. From there he flashed a quick first step and above average arm strength from shortstop during the game. Doesn’t possess the natural look of a middle infielder, his frame is muscular with a little bit of stiffness to his actions, but he has enough physical tools to make it work. The offensive ability doesn’t jump out at you, but if you dig into the numbers you’ll find significant value to what Rodriguez can bring to the plate. This past spring at Wofford, in 59 starts and 219 plate appearances he slashed .275/.408/.352 with 30 SB in 36 SBA. He’s continued to show a good approach this summer and has gotten on-base at a .419 clip across 35 games. The swing is level and built for a line-drive, contact approach. There’s some effort in his hitting actions but again, Rodriguez has the athleticism and hand-eye to make it work for himself. He stays within himself and doesn’t try to do too much. It might be tricky to figure out exactly where he fits at the next level, but his tools will continue to give him the chance to impact the game. (D Jurik)
