High-end athlete with easy actions; quick arm from shortstop. Booming gap power during batting practice. Was in Florida but now back in Brooklyn. PBR-NY first saw him in the PSAL playoffs as a sophomore that was already standing out among his peers.
PSAL Playoffs (May 2015)
Rarely do we come across a freshman at the varsity levels, especially in the powerhouse AAA division in NYC and at a program that has pumped out draft picks over the last few years. This was the case for 2018 shortstop Chris Mondesi for Grand St. Campus in Brooklyn. Mondesi, a nephew of former MLB great, Raul Mondesi checks in at 5-foot-11, 170-175-pounds with an athletic frame. Long term he may project to 3B as he ranges well now at SS and showed a decent arm but his body type and bat may be more conducive to a corner spot. Mondesi proved to be a tough out as he battled Walton's Moises Robles, fouling off several upper 80's fastballs and laying off some hard sliders before smoking an opposite field RBI single. Later in the game off a reliever he crushed a triple to right center field and went on to score the winning run.
