Eastern NY Prospect Preview (August 2, 2016)
Santoianni stands in at 5-foot-11; 165 pounds with a lean athletic frame. Recorded a 7.31 60. Offensively- LHH starts in a wide base with his feet outside of his shoulders and his hands just above his back shoulder. Athletic stance square to the pitcher. On the pitch his trigger is a quick lift of his lead foot putting it down in the same place as his set with his hands moving back slightly. Short stroke; quick hands to the hitting zone with good barrel acceleration through the zone to a two handed high finish. Good rotation on bottom half, keeping body in check with such a wide stance. Line drive results; uses whole field; Gap to gap potential as he fills out. Recorded an 82 mph exit velocity. Could improve exit velocity with more trigger of the hands pre swing to create more torque through the ball. Defensively- Aggressive approach and footwork getting to and under balls hit to the outfield. Stays behind ball well and shows a proper crow hop to get entire body engaged into throw. Moves well and is athletic getting to balls on his left or right side. Arm action can be short at times with an over the top release. Recorded a positional arm velocity of 81 mph (+5 MPH from June 23rd).
New England College Showcase (June 23, 2016)
Santoianni is an athletic 5-foot-11 165 outfielder who ran a 4.31 down the line on a home-to-1B. Offensively- Hits out of a wide stance; low hand setup. The hands need to be loaded but the swing is clean and the ball finds the barrel. The frame needs physical strength to it. Tee exit velocity of 83 mph. Defensively- In the outfield, threw 76 MPH with accuracy and carry through the ball. . Weight room and continuing to play with certainly help his development as a prospect.
