NY All-Star Games (September 17, 2016)
Custer stands a lean/wiry 6-foot-1 155 pounds. The SS/RHP ran an improved 6.84 60. Offensively- Starts slightly open; controlled take back of the hands with a toe-tap stride. Moderately short swing path with an elevated two-handed finish. Exit velocity was 77 MPH but results played better through middle of the field and he flashed some pop to the pull side gap. Table setter type approach. Defensively- Taller middle infield setup, clean lateral actions that could stand some more aggression; consistent with glove and transfer. Short infield arm action from a low 3/4 release, arm strength down more suitable for 2B at 67 MPH. Pitching- Starts center rubber, shifting to the glove side with a short drop step to belt high balance point. Arm action is long with no restrictions, working through a low 3/4 slot. FB sat 71-73 MPH, CB featured some 2-to-8 action at 55-57 MPH. Repeats delivery but will need velocity gains to project here at the next level.
Capital Region Open  (July 29, 2015)
Custer stands 5'11 135lbs with wide shoulders in a thin frame.  Body shows much room for growth.  A plus athlete now for his age.  Ran a 7.17 60-yd. dash. Defensively- Showed average but very efficient fielding skill now.  Hands and feet work well together. Stays low and shuffles through his throws.  Throws from a lower 3/4 arm angle.  Would like to see him become more aggressive, and attack ball on the ground.  Offensively- Fluent hitter with good rhythm.  Can spray the ball to all fields.  Uses a long toe tap and back load for timing on the pitch.  Keeps front side closed.  Level bat path with lift through contact.  High balanced finish.  Showed excellent bat speed for his age, evidenced by an 83-mph exit velocity. Yet another very good young player out of Shenendehowa, with a high ceiling.  Someone to watch as he grows and gains strength.

Futures Showcase (February 28, 2015)

Custer stands a slender 5-foot-11, 135-pounds, with wide shoulders and room for weight.  As an 8th grader, Custer showed above average speed (7.2 60yd) and some very impressive power.  (81mph Exit Velocity). Offensively- At the plate, Dylan starts with a wide stance.  Looks relaxed and stays tall through his swing. Brings his front knee to his back for timing on the pitch.  Good hip and shoulder separation on his load.  Stays loaded longer than the average hitter, but maximizes his bat speed through great torque and timing.  Would like to see him get a bit lower, and create less of a stall from load to swing.  Gets good extension out in front of the plate.  Finishes high. Defensively- Custer showed good movement side to side, and arm strength of (65mph) from a mid to low 3/4 arm slot.  Needs to work on getting lower, receiving the ball out in front, and bringing it back to his center.  Pitching- On the mound he starts with his hands chest high, and uses a side step to get to his balance point. Uses glide to stride method.  Lands slightly closed on front foot to create good rotation.  Sat 71-72mph from the windup, with a max of 73mph out of the stretch. Expect his velocity to jump as he grows into his body and matures.
