Staroba, a 2021 right-handed hitting third baseman and RHP, stands at 5-foot-6 and weighs 148 pounds, ran a 9.58 60.Offensively- Hits from a square lower half weight even with the hands above and in front of the back shoulder while the barrel of the bat is slightly more than 45-degrees from the ground. Gets to the launch phase with a moderate shift of weight to the back side while the lead leg is lifted and hands are dropped well below the shoulder with movement back towards the catcher. Peppered the ball mostly to the pull side line with some balls driven from the pull gap to the center of the field. Recorded an exit velocity of 68 MPH, which will improve once better extension can be achieved during and after contact. Allows the front hip to dominate and pull, but does a nice job of keeping the hands back. Defensively- Starts with very little pre pitch movement, approaching the ball a bit tentatively. Fields the ball off the right side of the body with a slightly open shoulder towards the throwing side. Transfers the ball from the hip, creating a longer arm action, but does get fairly good eg drive and rotation during the release. Recorded an arm velocity of 68 MPH, which will improve once the ball is fielded on the left side of the body creating a more in sync approach with the upper and lower half. Pitching- Starts from the center of the rubber with both hands held chin height. Gets to the gathered position with a side step towards the first base line while the pivot stays center rubber while the lead knee gets above the waist with a firm and stable drive leg. Fastball, thrown from an over the top angle, topped out with a velocity of 66 MPH with inconsistent command. Stride is short with an opening of the front hip causing the body to pull towards the glove side which prohibits quality extension. With an ability to get better extension, will pick up more MPH as well as have better command to the zone. The curveball, thrown from a high ¾ arm slot, topped out at 53 MPH.
