Offensively- Even setup, aggressive hands, uses all fields, loud contact, path is compact and short, barrel is moving uphill, signs of power form a lengthy frame. Campus Series-Albany (July 18, 2017)
Mouton stands in at 6-foot-1, 180-pounds with a lean athletic frame. Offensively- Righty sets up square to the pitcher with his feet outside shoulder width. Shows a slight knee bend with an upright torso hold the bat in front of the back shoulder using little pre-pitch bat movement. On pitch, his trigger is a quick stride forward while his hands move back slightly into his hitting position. Utilizes good lower body rotation clearing the hips using his whole-body frame in the pitch. Shows quick hands into the hitting zone with upward lift barrel action throughout into a high one-handed finish. Demonstrated potential gap to gap power during batting practice round with clean fluid swings. Recorded an exit velocity of 89 MPH, tying his best mark set back in February 2017. Defensively- Good approach and footwork towards the baseball. Fielding mechanics are clean with a quick funnel into the chest and appropriate transition into the throwing position. Has aggressive footwork towards intended target and made accurate throws. Moves well left/right and in on the run. Recorded a positional arm velocity of 75 MPH, a 1 MPH improvement from February 2017. Pitching- Sets up in the middle of the rubber with a simple side step into a high leg raise above the hip crease. Breaks down well with good separation into a high ¾ release point. Could engage lower half into the delivery with a better follow through to get in a good fielding position. Will come with more strength and development. Fastball range was 75-76 MPH showing arm side run. Curveball was 60-62 MPH with 12/6 action. Change-up was 67-68 MPH with arm side sink.
Preseason All-State (February 20, 2017)
Mouton checks in at strong 6-foot-1, 180 pounds. Had a 60 yard dash time of 7.38 seconds. Offensively- Begins with feet wider than shoulder width and knees slightly bent in a slightly open stance. Hands are aligned at back shoulder height. Uses a small leg kick that lands at even. Hands get slightly away from body before going to the ball. Swing plane is flat through his swing but contact is made in front of body, limiting extension. Hips are rotational during his swing. Two handed finish just above front shoulder with some gap potential. Had an exit velocity of 89 MPH off of the tee. Defensively- Approaches the ball with long, smooth strides. Sets up with feet wide and bent slightly at the knees. Fields ball tight to his body and takes hands right to throwing position. Uses a quick shuffle to generate momentum towards target. Gets rid of ball quickly. Had throws of 74 MPH across the diamond with a low ¾ arm slot. Pitching- Begins with feet at shoulder width in the middle of the rubber. Quick side step to initiate wind up. Knee lift comes to chest height at balance point. Stride leg is long and lands in line with plate. Stabs ground on backside before arm comes quickly through with an over the top arm slot. Fastball was in the 75-76 MPH range with slight downhill angle. Threw a change up with fade at 63-64 MPH. Also showed a curveball with large, slow break at 58-59 MPH.
