Last Chance Preview (Nov. 18, 2018)

Santos stands 5-foot-8, 150-pounds from a lean athletic build and ran a 7.06 60-yard dash. Offensively- At the plate he uses a confident balanced approach, relaxed with back elbow high. On the pitch he uses a small stride, short to the ball with slight tilt in his barrel path, loose and repeatable, full extension. Shows bat control to all fields, exit velocity up to 85 mph. Defensively- Shows active footwork, soft hands, throws from a high 3/4 slot with accuracy across the diamond. Quicker glove to hand release would benefit his overall game. Player to keep an eye on this spring.

Team Citius Workout
Santos has a lean frame with a lot of room for growth as he gets older and develops more. Ran a 7.09 – 60. Offensively- Lefty sets up in an open stance with his feet outside shoulder width. Shows a slight knee bend with his torso leaning in towards the plate with his bat held above the back shoulder using little pre-pitch bat movement. On pitch his trigger is a stride forward squaring up with the pitcher while his hands move back slightly into his hitting position. Has good lower body rotation getting whole body frame involved in the swing. Shows quick hands into the hitting zone with a level barrel path throughout into a high one handed finish. Demonstrated line drive ability up the middle and pull side during his batting practice rounds. Overall has a fluid swing. Recorded an exit velocity of 76 MPH. Defensively- Moves well to the baseball. Has smooth fielding mechanics with a good transition from the glove to the throwing hand. Needs to be more aggressive with footwork setting him up to field the ball and on throws; overall will make him quicker. Recorded a positional arm velocity of 76 MPH. Middle infield actions and table setter approach make him a certain follow for the 2019 class.
