Power / Speed Score
A simple calculation that divides the athlete’s Exit Velocity Max by the athlete’s 60 Yard Dash time for the given event year. For example, 98 MPH / 7.00s = 14.00.
Physical: 5-foot-11, 262 pounds; full bodied, strong frame. 7.51 runner in the 60. Offensively: RHH. Feet set just past shoulder width along with hands up by the ears and a relaxed bat on his shoulder; strides forward and turns the shoulders away from the pitcher effectively loading his upper body. Stays connected through his back hip nicely, turns quickly and on time with uphill bat path with some early turn in the barrel to induce lift on the ball by getting on plane early. Crushed the ball all over the outfield throughout his round, taking a liking to the pull side gap; peak Trackman exit velocity of 99 MPH. Defensively: Wide stance and a sturdy base with his chest low to the ground; uses good footwork to time it up nicely to field on his right foot and propel to the target all in one smooth motion. Clean hands that work softly through the ball into a clean transfer; throws from a very low slot with little effort, smooth actions. Projects better at 1B. INF - 66 MPH.
4/10/16
Full bodied catcher; transfer from St. Raymonds HS. Experienced some difficulty behind the plate catching RHP Andrew Pena (85-87; 88,89 MPH with command problems). Sets up well; compact, low to the ground target. Worked very well with reliever Danny Betances for the back end of the game. Dead ball throwdowns (footwork and exchange) were not very tight put threw out the speedy Johnathan Pena from Grand St. in the 7th with an on the bag strike. Needs some work behind the plate but the skills are there. At the plate the RHH had several well hit balls with nothing to show for it (sinking line drive caught to LF and deep flyball to center tracked down). Did reach via a walk and a hard hit E5; Different sound when the ball comes off his bat; power potential is there.
